I have had a varied career beginning in radio where I worked in the Traffic Department (commercial scheduling) and established and managed this department for Virgin Radio from launch, Virgin Radio has since become Absolute Radio and is still going strong. I then moved into production on an entertainment show, which was great fun. I created and developed online radio stations for NME and AOL. I also worked for Surrey Singing School for 12 years teaching pop vocals, music theatre and drama and helping to develop administration and operations. I have taught private singing pupils since 2011. Music is a passion of mine and I perform with a band and have run showcases for young artists. I have been presenting enterprise courses in schools since 2016.
I have always been involved in working with a team to present a finished product within a deadline, I have a huge feeling of job satisfaction helping young people to realise the lifeskills that they possess and watching them apply them in a real world situation. It is a joy to see them have so much pride in the results of their efforts and gain so much confidence for the future.

Marie-Claire Lakin
I started my business career as a Unilever graduate trainee in Marketing working on brands such as Batchelors, Oxo and Flora. I moved to Hasbro some years later into a European Brand Manager role, working on brands such as Star Wars and Batman. This allowed me to use my languages and develop strong teamwork, creative thinking and negotiating skills.
I turned to teaching after my children were born. I started tutoring German (GCSE & A-Level), then teaching enterprise courses in schools and tutoring children with Down Syndrome (both primary and secondary school aged).
I also run an education-based summer camp for children with Down Syndrome, with exciting and engaging activities to help develop numeracy, language and writing skills. I have a passion for teaching creatively and believe all children can learn if they are taught in the right way.
Prior to Covid I was also a regular guest speaker at the Down Syndrome Association Education Days. I love bringing business to the classroom and inspiring children to develop their skills whilst having fun and being creative!

I have worked for several years as a freelance kickboxing and fitness instructor, operating under the name 'Kickboxing with Holly'. I work 1to1 with adults and children of all ages and abilities. Previously, I have also worked as a JacksonFit instructor, a W6 gym class leader and a manager at Sprint Martial Arts. Alongside my fitness work I am a Writer, Director and Producer for both Film and Theatre. I've gained business experience from creating my own brand and producing and delivering works for the screen and stage. Now I'm excited to be sharing these skills with the children we deliver our LifeLab courses to.
